Sam Fender was awarded the honor recently in Newcastle

The artist has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the UK's independent concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the award on 16 October as his third album his work was declared the best record of the previous year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," the star has commented.

He is not the first artist to give his award prize money to charitable organizations.

When they earned the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would donate their winnings to the organization War Child.

In 2002, artist she split her prize among a few good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked new equipment," the artist told outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the local youth club that developed their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Recently, the trust revealed it had saved two grassroots venues in the South East, by placing them under local control.

One venue in the city and the other in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
